Glossary of Industry Terms

Manufactured Housing
A home built entirely in a factory and designed for long-term residential use. Manufactured homes are built under construction standards enforced by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) in Washington, D.C. Formerly called "mobile homes."

Manufactured Home Communities
Private land developed as manufactured housing home sites. In Michigan, most lots are rented to the homeowner for a monthly fee.

Multi-Section Home
Manufactured housing delivered to the home site in two or three sec-tions. Ranges from 1200 to over 2400 square feet. May have attached garage.

Trailer
1. a person, animal or thing that trails another.
2. not a manufactured home.

Statement of Intent: Glen-Aire, LLC is a manufactured home community intended and operated as a community providing “housing for older persons” under the U.S. Fair Housing Act. Under the Act, those persons aged 55 and older are identified as “older persons”. Glen-Aire has guidelines (rules) establishing its status as “housing for older persons” and complies with the Act by enforcing these rules. October 14, 1999
